Knog N.E.R.D. 9 vs. RunKeeper

Like a true bike nerd, I like to compare the data of my rides. Today I had a nice ride and I recorded it both on my Knog N.E.R.D. 9 bike computer and on RunKeeper on my Android phone.

RunKeeper data:

  • Distance: 27,22 km
  • Duration: 1h37m30s
  • Average speed: 16,8 km/h
  • Top speed: 39,8 km/h

Knog N.E.R.D. 9 data:

  • Distance: 24,45 km
  • Duration: 1h29m14s
  • Average speed: 16,4 km/h
  • Top speed: 38,8 km/h
I don't know where RunKeeper found the extra 3 km, or where the N.E.R.D. lost the 3km... The rest of the data are almost the same, so no winner or loser in this "test".
Next ride I'll try the Strava app, let's see what the differences will be.

RunKeeper vs. Cateye Velo 8

Last night I had the "marvelous" idea to do a test.
Since I got a new fancy Android phone, I'm downloading apps like a motherfucker! One of those apps is RunKeeper. And I thought it was funny to do a test. What I did was let my Cateye Velo 8 cycling computer keep track of the same route as RunKeeper.
And surprise surprise! There were some different outcomes!

Cateye Data:

  • Time: 26 m 55 s
  • Distance: 11,26 km
  • Average Speed: 26,1 km/h
  • Max Speed: 47,5 km/h
  • Calories burned: 217,9

RunKeeper Data:

  • Time: 26 m 41 s
  • Distance: 11,11 km
  • Average Speed: 24,98 km/h
  • Max Speed: 52,9 km/h
  • Calories burned: 308

There's a 5 km/h gap between RunKeeper and the cycling computer in the top speed, a 1,1 km/h gap in the average speed, and 90 calorie gap between the burned calories. But I find that burned calories thingie bullshit anyhow...
What I do like about Runkeeper is the fact that is keeps track of the climbing meters you do on your ride!
So I was kinda skeptical at first, but it's still a fun app that I can recommend!
